Beginning Straps

Beginning straps is for those individuals who have taken at least 2 sessions of intro to straps or by instructor approval. This class expands on the fundamentals and introduces new skills and more fun torturous conditioning drills.

Choose Your Own Adventure

As the name says, this class is an opportunity to create your own aerial learning experience, with Bev there to guide you. Work on an act, review skills on your choice of apparatus, focus on conditioning, or maybe something different each week.  Just come in with a general plan and choice of apparatus.

Students may use their own or VA equipment, but student equipment must be left at VA at least one hour before class if not stored at the studio.

Flexibility Technique

Flexibility is one of the key aspects of all circus arts. The ability to expand your body’s range of motion takes a lot of time and effort, but also intelligence to do it properly. This class is going to focus on teaching you the technique of flexibility. By combining passive flexibility (holding flexible positions assisted by floor, fabrics…etc.) and active flexibility (the ability to use your muscles to hold flexible positions unassisted), we will cover a vast range of flexibility training methods to help you discover your body’s custom flexibility regimen.

Welcome to Flying Pole Playground!  This is an all levels class that will explore spinning, swinging, and static moves on a flying pole.  There will be both a gripped (pants and long sleeve shirts required) and an ungripped (shorts and a sports bra) pole available.  You will be contacted before the class to evaluate which one is best for you.

Any Level 1 class at Versatile arts or equivalent pole/aerial experience

Hello, Straps

This class is for intermediate and advanced aerial students looking to take their strength and technique to the next level. The objectives of this class are to increase aerial-specific strength and stability; to teach students advanced aerial skills that can be used for conditioning as well as translated to other apparatus, and to introduce and safely build a solid skill set of straps fundamentals. Straps class will take students through a cardio and plyometric-based warm-up and a skills portion comprised of planches, meat hooks, flags, pike-and-rock variations and muscle-ups. The class will finish with static and assisted stretching.

This entry-level class will introduce students to a few basic skills on the aerial silks (also called fabric or tissu). Class will start with a group warmup to prepare the body for working on the air, and will also include exercises in proper shoulder and core engagement. And of course there will be some conditioning at the end! It will be fun workout that will also introduce you to the joys of defying gravity.

You’ll mount your sling at the beginning of class, and not come down til the end. Expect lots of abdominal exercise, a reawakening of grip strength, and fun! (And some resting poses – don’t worry.)

In this class we will focus on skill building and developing strong fundamentals. Focus will be on body position in all basic trapeze positions: straight arm hang, body beats, knee hangs and beats, front balance, and understanding the purpose of good technique. We will begin exploring “butt shelf theory,” a way to move around the bar with ease, and start thinking about creative transitions.

Who's ready to up their static trapeze game? This class will be a combination of skills work and choreography exploration, using both the low and high bars in the Cathedral. Trapeze level 2B and up - you don't have to be able to pull over onto the high bar, but you should be working toward it. There will be ankle hangs - you have been warned.
